Standing Committee on Amicus Curiae Briefs

The Standing Committee on Amicus Curiae Briefs reviews all amicus curiae briefs drafted for filing in the name of the American Bar Association. The five-member committee makes recommendations to the Board of Governors as to whether a proposed ABA amicus curiae brief fairly represents the policy of the ABA and whether it is of high professional quality.

In general, the ABA will file an amicus curiae brief only in the highest court in which the issue is likely to be finally determined, usually the United States Supreme Court.
